Yeah, that's kind of sum it all. I saved the game right after the first few screens (set your history thing), shut it down and was going to continue playing later. However, it seemed to just crash as soon as I loaded the file.

Anyone know why this is happening?

I'm on Windows 7 and yes, I've checked the run as admin box.

Where did you install the game? Make sure that the directory where the game is installed has full control privileges (read/write/modify). The game is running smoothly for me on Windows 8, but I did have a lot of trouble with my first installs of GOG games because the installation folder - which I had left by default in Program Files x86 - didn't have write/modify privileges and games couldn't create or modify config and save files.
I don't know whether that can be the source of your problem, but it can't hurt to check. :)
I don’t have a Windows machine but have heard that paths with spaces in them may give trouble. Try putting the save at C:\ as a quick test.
Been there, done that. Still crashes.

My original save game is in my data partition (D: drive) so it should have full access to it. Anyway, I've moved my save game around in other parts of the drive (C: and My documents) but it still crashes anyway.

This is the only game I got from GoG that has such a problem though.
