Oh when your thingy leaves Kerbin's atmosphere and the stars appear and the music gets all soothing and everything feels softer and calmer and more beautiful.
Oh when your thingy has crossed re-entry hell and the unstable parachute wait and is immobile on the Kerbin ground when (almost) nothing bad can happen to it, and you feel home (and retrievable) after a long mission of horrible perils.
Oh when your rescue team arrives in sight of the castaway, when you can switch to their point of view and start running or propelling yourself towards this new habitat, shattering who knows how much time of isolation...
Oh when it's a whole pod you have to retrieve and suddenly the claw makes contact and the two vehicles are united, sharing resources, switching commands, and sharing whatever velocity change would occure then.
Oh the moment you are landed on a foreign soil for the first time, just spinning the view around (screenshotting like mad), and everything around looks calvin-and-hobbesishly dreamy. Before even you land foot and try out jumping around in this very new gravity field.
Many awe-inducing moments. Still, my favorite may be the one that imply the contact of independant kerbals somewhere in the immensity of space (including deserted planets). The "ooh, someone !!!" instants are priceless.
