I want to buy the game, but I have some concers.

Red Shell (or another similar software), was removed or is still part of the game?
Is the game up to date here in GOG? Do the updates arrive at the same time?
How's the mod support? (I have no experience modding games while using GOG/GOG Galaxy, but I suppose it will be like modding any other game)

as for the Red Shell some say it was removed, https://www.gog.com/forum/kerbal_space_program/ksp_eula_and_red_shell/post3
company claims the same for steam
but the company could have just change to other method,
as for the update part, they seem to be, give or take a few days,
there's 1.6 on steam from day 12.

as for mods, don't know, don't really use them,
the developers do say
"... you can share and download missions on Curse[www.curseforge.com], KerbalX[kerbalx.com], the KSP Forum[forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com] and the KSP Steam Workshop."
and the game does have dedicated folders to place new ships, parts and mods
