Can anyone recommend any good base locations for a skeleton playthrough ?

My only stipulation is that it's in a good position to harass the Holy Nation and allow for frequent rescue operations on their slave camps. I guess it would also have to be easily defensible as those HN guys are pretty tough.

I haven't tried building a base yet, but I've done research up to tech-3. I don't really care that much about crafting, but maybe some food would be good for all the HN outlaws I rescue.

around the great desert area

I made a forward camp in the holy triangle (attachment). Stone & Iron is also pretty close together; not sure if its a good place for a main base though.

Oh yeah, a forward camp! now that's probably the smarter idea. I'm starting a new game with Hive, which means I'll probably have to be more selective when it comes to base locations.

I think I need to build an early base in an area where the mobs aren't too tough. I've found the canibals are pretty good for combat training in the early stages of the game. Good for leveling lockpicking too I guess. And there's always the prospect of getting recruits from their victims.

Know any good spots around that area ?

Not really. My main city it deep south west in the spider plains. Expect some good honest beat up by various Shek factions there :P

Allied myself with the SK by bringing in the Bugmaster*; went a bit better then; you'll start to get regular HN visits though. But considering the long trip from their closest city its fine. Once I ambushed their invading force; one made it though. I felt bad for him; standing in front of my gate with two broken arms and demanding my surrender.

*in memorandum of the ultimate heroic sacrifice the robot killer army that kept following my sniper made :P
