It loads into the menu, then it freezes for a long time, about 1 or 2 minutes, before slowly advancing to the next screen. And then another long freeze. I thought that an anti stutter fix listed on another post might help, as my problem could be interpreted as an extreme form of stutter as it did seem to be slowly pushing forward, albeit with 1-2 minute freeze per sequence. I actually got as far as a cutscene but then force quit the program.

Playing around with the different compatibilty modes and run as admin didn't bring any new results either, a shame as it was going for quite a nice deal for the two games. I'm not sure if the 2nd game works, maybe it does but my plan was to play that after completing the first. So i'll probably refund, can't be spending all morning trying to get two old games to run. Got some Witcher Rogue Mage to be playing!

The first game did not work for me until I booted the second game and it notified me that I was missing openal32.dll. After downloading that, then switching to OpenAl in the sound options, the game stopped crashing.
I suggest using "OpenAL soft", that's an emulator which is more compatible than the original OpenAL

Also use IndirectSound to restore surround sound for several games that use EAX for surround.
The openal32.dll file fixed it for me, thanks.
