New Character - Reese!
Posted: Fri, May 22, 2020 @ 6:57 PM CEST
The fastest (and furriest) Jumpala competitor
It's been a long time coming, but it's finally time to announce a new character!
Introducing Reese, Jumpala's fastest (and furriest) competitor!
Not much is known about Reese's backstory. When he appeared at Javelin Stadium
to announce his desire to compete for the championship, the judges' first
question was how he gained the ability to speak - to which he replied,
"If you think that's impressive, just wait until you see me in a game!"
While Reese is naturally quicker than other competitors, the contraption
on his chest enables him to move at extremely high speeds.
Abilities
Scamper
Reese's can use his Scamper ability to run on all fours, allowing him to
quickly cover a lot of ground. If he changes directions while running,
he'll slow down a little as he slides.
Hyperspeed
Reese will move incredibly quickly ... it may take a bit to get a handle
on the controls! If you bump into another player while Hyperspeed is
activated, you'll stun them for a brief moment.

Development Updates
Balance changes
We spent quite a lot of time play testing Reese, and in the process,
noticed some major issues that needed to be addressed.
To start with, we're undoing the recent change that prevented you
from wagering when frozen. Those of you who watched last week's
video probably saw how much of a game changer that was - it made
Frore way too strong. You could be having a great round, and one wrong
ice blast could undo all of your hard work.
We're also removing the points penalty for Lola's Dash N' Slash.
We've found that good Lola players can hit their target 10s of time
in a round, resulting in a point loss of 50 or more!
The respawn penalty is punishing enough on its own.
Both of these changes give non-offensive players like Cid and Reese
more room to breathe without having to worry about playing a
 near-perfect game.

Other changes
o Fixed an issue where using Bommer's Bombshell would destroy platforms that had yet to fall
o Lola's Line Strike now locks platforms traveled across if a Lock Platform item is in use
o Lola's Line Strike now cracks frozen platforms traveled across
o Mouse cursor no longer appears in game

That's it for now! Be sure to wishlist!

v0.4.3.3 Patch Notes
Posted: Fri, July 10, 2020 @ 5:42 AM CEST

This patch introduces a few small but significant balance changes:
o Slightly increased Frore's movement speed
o Reduced the number of startup frames Frore's Ice Blast
 o Increased Bommer's Special Cost from 4 to 5
I've been getting a lot of feedback that Frore's a little too slow to be
utilized. These changes should make her feel a little more lively.
You'll still have to position yourself well in order to line up your shots,
but moving to a good position should be easier.
People are realizing Bommer's potential now. She can severely reduce the number
points you can get in a round, and also guarantee points in a way similar
to Cid - only her bomb placement is much faster. Her previous SP cost was 4,
but since she'd gain at least 1 point back by blowing up a platform, it was
effectively 3. By increasing her SP to 5, she fits in with other punishing
 characters like Frore and Lola.
Have fun!

New Character: Dr. Time
Posted: Sat, August 1, 2020 @ 7:55 PM CEST

It's finally time to introduce Jumpala's newest character, Dr. Time!
Dr. Time has the unique ability to manipulate time, without being affected
himself. His special, Slow Time, will slow down time while allowing him
to move normally. Use this to escape danger and beat opponents to items!
Dr. Time's ultimate will stop time completely, giving you a chance to move
around the stage at will. You'll be invincible for as long as time is stopped,
so use this as an opportunity to claim as many platforms as you can!
Dr. Time's time-bending abilities have an effect on his body. This means that
all time-based effects, good or bad, last a little bit longer when applied
to Dr. Time. For example ... (for image see 'Source' below)
Items effects take longer to wear off. That's great! However, if you die,
you'll take longer to respawn. It also takes longer to unfreeze
 after being frozen. Be careful!

v0.5.2 - New Character: Ribbon
Posted: Thu, September 24, 2020 @ 6:18 PM CEST

It's time for a new character: Introducing Ribbon!
Ribbon's normal special will steal points from other players on hit.
 (Cid mains hate her!)
Her ultimate grants her invisibility for a short time.
While invisible, she'll be invulnerable to all damage and
 steal double the points!

Bug fixes and balance changes:
 o Reduce Reese's ultimate duration by 20%
o Slightly increased hitbox for Lola's ultimate
o Fixed a bug where players would occasionally not fall when Bommer detonated
   their platform
o Cid's ultimate now travels through portals and laser triggers
o Games will no longer end in a tie; instead, additional rounds
will be played until one player wins

v0.5.3 - Practice Mode and Stage Banning
Posted: Thu, November 5, 2020 @ 3:11 AM CET

I've been hard at work on getting Jumpala ready for release, but it's been
a while since I've pushed a new version. In addition to a ton of bug fixes
and some balance changes, two new features have been added!

Practice mode
You can now practice on stages without any other players or CPUs!
Pressing pause in Practice Mode will let you change the stage speed and
 your current meter.

Stage Banning
On the Stage Selection screen, you can now ban stages to prevent them
 from being chosen via Random.

Balance changes
o Reese no longer builds meter while in Hyperspeed
o Some platforms on Space Station have been adjusted
o Increased land stun while shift jumping

There's a lot more in store, so stay tuned!

v0.6 - New Maps, Private Lobbies, Solo Rankings, and more
Posted: Tue, November 24, 2020 @ 12:26 AM CET

It's time for another Jumpala update! This is a pretty big one, and probably
one of the last as Jumpala gets closer to its release.

Here's what's new:

Solo Rankings
You can now see how well you did in Solo Mode! Once you beat all your opponents,
stay tuned after the credits to get your ranking.

The full version of the game will record your best stats for each difficulty.

Three New Maps
o Baron Industries - Be careful, there are a lot of dangerous lasers in this one.
o Crystal Cavern - Watch out for falling icicles!
o Arata City - This stage is narrower and a little higher than the others.

Introducing Jenny
These stages can be a bit tougher than other stages like Proving Grounds
or Twilight Canyon. One bit of feedback I've received is that some of
the harder stages can be overwhelming and a little discouraging for
new players (looking at you, Onclave Labs). To alleviate this, harder
stages now have to be purchased with Jenny. You earn Jenny by completing
matches, either in solo mode, local versus, or online. Beating solo mode
rewards bonus Jenny, as does winning an online match.
Jenny is only available in the full version.

Private Lobbies
The full version of the game now supports private matches!
You can invite your Steam friends or send them a lobby code.

Bug Fixes and Balance Changes
o Stages will now be shuffled in online matches
o In online matches, the local player will now always appear as P1 on their screen
o Training mode no longer ends after death
o Training mode no longer stops after 200 points
 o Decreased shift jump lag
o Reduced freeze duration of Frore's Ice Blast by 30%

Jumpala will be released on January 19th, 2021!
Posted: Thu, January 7, 2021 @ 7:23 PM CET

Happy New Year, everyone. Some good news to share with you all:

Jumpala now has a release date! You'll be able to download the full version
of the game on January 19th, 2021! Wishlist now so that you can get it
 as soon as it's released.

I'm also excited to announce that Jumpala has a publisher!
The awesome folks over at Versus Evil (The Banner Saga, Pillars of Eternity,
Cardpocalypse) have jumped on board to help make Jumpala a success.

Changes

The last few weeks have been spent polishing up the game for release.
Dozens of bugs have been fixed, some menus and sprite animations have
been tweaked, and some small gameplay changes have been implemented as well.
Here are the most pertinent ones:

UI/UX Enhancements
o Banned stages now persist between games
o Character Select now shows CPU level

Character Changes
o Reduced Time's ultimate startup by 1 frame
o Fixed a bug where Lola's dash and slash doesn't always kill multiple players
   on the same platform
o Fixed a bug where Reese gets stuck when scampering at the end of a row
o Lola's ult now targets the platform she is on as well. However, it will
not hit a player if they are standing in the same position (left, right,
   middle) as Lola.
o Cid's ult now passes through moving platforms on Abandoned Servers
o Fixed a bug where Ribbon's Steal could work on invincible players
o Lola now has a ~2 frame grace period where using Line Strike after
pressing jump will still claim platforms

We're nearing the finish line! Can't wait to see you all on the 19th.

Patch Notes v1.1.0
Posted Sun, January 31, 2021 @ 2:10 AM CET

Character Balance
o Reduced Cid's special activation time by 50%
 o Increased Cid's SP cost from 3 to 4

I've received a lot of feedback from the community about how strong Cid is.
Don't think I haven't been listening :)
These changes make Cid much less likely to be able to chain his ultimates and
encourages more use of his special ability.

User Experience
o Fixed an issue where Bommer's tutorial could get stuck when using her ultimate without standing on a locked row
o Fixed an issue where the in-game Invite dialog would continue to show in a private online lobby
o The Steam Invite dialog no longer appears automatically at the start of a private lobby, but can be manually triggered
