I love this game even though it feels so cheap, but I have this issue where if a cutscene lags the sound messes up. When it lags, the sound plays at late moments, making watching them unbearable. Any help with this?

What operating system do you have? I have XP myself and had no issues with the game.
Shitsta...aka Vista.
Do you have compatibility mode turned on? That might help. Or you could try using different compatibility settings, if the mode is already turned on.
Have no trouble in Win7.

Possibly relevant: 32 or 64-bit? And how powerful is your machine - is it possible that it's hiccuping on something? (particular points of interest: is it single-core? is your hard disk slow? Either of these might cause intermittent issues when background processes demand attention.)

tomimt's suggestion is a good one, always a first thing to test.

In case you need one, a quick guide to setting compatibility mode:

I have this issue as well, and I'm running it on Win7. Compatibility/admin mode did not help. Did you ever find a solution?
I just beat the game yesterday and I thought check the boards. That sound issue one thing I have with the game. The old days, when the demo came out. I got a lousy PC (Celeron 633, 320 MB RAM, Geforce2 or TNT2). And I noticed the sound is lagging, skipping, static.
So, maybe your Pc not enough for the game. In my case the solution was set the resolution to 640x480 and/or set sound mixing to mono.
