SirEnity: Which one shoould I be starting with?
JA -> JA: Deadly Games
JA2 -> JA2: Unfinished Business -> JA2: Wildfire

So... Yeah, start with basic Jagged Alliance.

They're all worth the money.

JA was the 1st.
JA DG was a multiplayer add-on which also offers skirmish/single player.
JA2 is JA's successor.
JA2:UB is an stand alone expansion. It offers the option to import characters from a JA2 savegame, which makes UB harder. However you do get to play with the mercs you got attached to.
JA2 Wildfire was basically the 1st mod and the only one which got an official release. It's a redo of JA2, it doesn't offer a completely new story like other mods.

JA2, JA2:UB and JA2 Wildfire have been highly modded which means you can extend your gameplay with dozens of hours.
With exception of JA DG and JA2 Wildfire I've bought these games when they were 1st released.
I've been coming back to them ever since.

Like I said, all these games are worth their money.
Staying loyal to the series, you should start with JA.
After that you can move on to JA2.
You can than decide to get JA DG and/or JA2:UB and/or JA2 Wildfire or go straight to a JA2 mod.

I would have to disagree there. JA2 is superior to its predecessors in every way and there is virtually no reference or continuity between JA and JA2. The only reason why I might consider playing the older games are the objective-based missions in JADG, which IMO are somewhat more interesting that the "kill everyone to win" approach in all of the other games.

The continuity makes no difference, JA 1 is still an ass-kicking game, very hard to beat. If you ever liked UFO/X-COM, there's a chance you'll love Jagged Alliance.
I for once never played JA2 and I still go back to JA1 every now and then (I only checked the forums here because I'm actually playing every night).

Well that's why right there, isn't it. You never played JA2. Once you do, you will have no reason to go back to JA1, because it's simply inferior in all respects. I certainly never did go back. Yes, JA1 is an ass kicking game, I loved it very much, but it offers nothing that JA2 doesn't also have. JA2 is simply even more ass kicking.

Although I mostly play JA2, I sometimes go back to JA1.
It's still a good and fun game to play occasionally.
Hmmmm, i have played all of JA series plus a few mods and i still go back to JA1 and DG sometimes. Yes, JA2 is definetly better, but its just a great feeling when you go back to the roots. Oh and the JA series has continuity, just have a look at Hitman ;)
HertogJan, that was a nice breakdown of the various games in the series; very useful. Thanks.
You're welcome.

Yeah, it's fun to first play thru JA1 and then continue to JA2 and choose all your favourite characters again, too bad Boss was no more in JA2, awesome mechanic/marksman.

There were new mercs in return.
Steriod is a nice replacement for Boss in JA2 and 1 of my favorite characters..

Steroid would be awesome if he didn't get his panties in a twist whenever he comes in the vicinity of Igor or Ivan. :(

Also, the alumni section of the JA2 A.I.M. site is great.

Simply don't put Steroid in the same team as Ivan and Igor and you should be fine.
The answer to this question depends on what type of gamer you are. If you are a(probably older) gamer who is perfectly fine with 'old school' graphics, perspectives(top down as opposed to isometric) and the comparatively limited scope of the games from the early 1990s, then JA: DG would be the one I would go with...IF you are one of those who likes to play the games in sequential order and enjoy the continuity stuff.

I myself bought and occasionally play JA: DG for a bit. But I can play JA 2(with the 1.13 mod) for DAYS! It is simply a far superior game in every respect. For MOST gamers I would suggest JA 2 is the best starting point for reasons already stated above by others. There is a reason why JA2 constantly pops up near the top of various "Best of all time!" lists.

As for the standalone expansions; Unfinished Business is/was a fun little game/campaign and should be played by any JA fan(at least once). Wildfire...not so much.
