I am in sector 60 (the starting one) and I am unable to move on to sector 59 to start fighting. At the map screen this is my only choice, I can't go directly to 59 because it says "In Enemy Hands". What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Did you already hire mercenaries and select them?
Hello,
One the dawn of the day you will have to choose where to start the day of by placing your mercenaries in an allied held sector. After you select a sector you will see white dots appear, these are your mercenaries. If you want to move to another sector you will have to start the day and from the tactical view move your mercenaries to either the North, West, East or Southern edges of the map and then press the "Travel" button.
Also a little tip : if you press and hold down the left mouse button and then right-click, all your mercs will move simultaneously thus saving quite some time in moving them around!

I know this topic is old and Yannos already gave you the answer but I just remember it took me some serious time to figure that out myself back in the days...
