I CANT BELIEVE,it was 7 mercs agaisnt 3 puny soldiers without armor plus pistols,it was in a forest,all those ******* were in the open crawling like bugs,AND LYNX (that ******) couldnt hit him from 5 squares away,PLUS BEING BEHIND A TREE,that **** killed Ira and my custom merc with 2 shots from that stupid 38. from 10 tiles away,lynx got killed because he runned out of bullets trying to hit that **** that was in the OPEN,he got killed again with 38.,and the 4 mercs left were hit misteriously being all behind a tree!
this games is a piece of ****.I WAS IN NOVICE!,i dont know why I spent 10 dollars on this,stupid game,PLUS THEY HAVE MORE AP POINTS!

Since I think that you're not trolling, just frustrated, here's my tip for you:
Take it easy. You'll want to take your time if you play JA2. There are lots of features that are not immediately obvious, but that greatly affect your chances of winning. Take the hight ground (ie, climb on roofs), keep your head down, keep Ira and other lamers behind, spend enough points on agility for your custom merc if you want more action points, make sure you have good weapons, sneak up to the enemies at night and kill them with throwing knives, and so on, and so forth.
Read a walkthrough if you want, it doesn't spoil the game in my opinion. And yes, you will have those moments, when you're just the unluckiest bastard in the whole world and get shot to death with a puny 38.
No sweat, and I suggest you play some Painkiller if you want to blow off some steam.

And, how good marksmen are the mercs? Guns are not the most acurate weapons either, it gets much better when you get rifles.
Remember to train marksmanship as often as you can. using the training option.

Ahhh, the first two attempts I had at a JA game and I was absolutely slaughtered in the first town. Part of the fun is learning how to use each Merc and the terrain to your advantage.
Various suggestions:
Your 'gun' using Mercs need good marksmanship & related skills.
Focus your aim, it uses more AP, but increases your chances to hit.
Get close and hit them with a Burst shot or melee weapon, then, flee around a corner/rock.
Hide, crawl and cover against pretty much anything.
Set up ambushes and lure the enemy to your position.

Always remember, too, that just because it LOOKS like you're behind cover, you might not actually be (and might be wide open and vulnerable). Check it.

JA2:Gold had an option to check where the good places to hide are (where it's harder for enemie to spot you). I think it was Insert and Home or Delete and End, can't really remember. And i have a hunch that the writer of that post didn't aim. I remember where i finished JA1 and then a friend told me that i could aim too >_<
