I am new to computer games, but I grew up loving the Shining Force games on Genisis, I was happy to find them again on Steam. Ever since then I have looked for other RPGs that gave me the same feeling as Shining Force 1 and 2, but maybe instead of looking into RPG games i should be looking into strategy games like this? I believe Shining Force is only considered a RPG, but with the turn based battles maybe I would like Stratagy games more. I haven't played a single one. Do you think I should give Jagged Allience a try? Is there another game you think I should try first, or would like more? If you can recomend me games that would be great. preferably games that are available on GOG or Steam. RPG or stratagy recomendations are both fine. I might just give this a try eventually because it does look interesting, and fun. Wanted to hear your thoughts, recomendations first. thanks!

Compared to the shining force games, the jagged alliance games are more realistic. You can only see /hear what your characters can see (i.e. locations of enemies is unknown until detected). Characters lose health from wounds until receiving first aid. The consideration of tactics is emphasized more because of the chance of sudden death (from a gunshot or an explosive) and the chance of permanent injury to your characters. The jagged alliance games are fun, but they aren't quite shining force with guns. I recommend you give them a try since they are fairly fun.

I recommend the following console games that are actually more in the vein of the shining force games:
Dark Wizard
Shining Force CD
Shining Force 3
Langrisser Series
Fire Emblem Series
Advance War Series

As to PC games, I would recommend the following games:
Heroes of Might and Magic Series
Age of Wonder Series
Disciples Series

Look up these games to see if any of them strike your fancy.

Thanks! I would love to play Shining Force 3, or Shining Force CD, but I don't know how I would be able to do that on the computer, and I don't have any consoles anymore. (I had a PS3 but the laser stoped working and I said I was done with consoles, and thought I was done with games until I just started playing games on the computer very recently).

I think I will try Jagged Alliance, it looks fun to me. One person said I should start with part 2, but I think I will try it from the start. I will also look into the games you recomended on the computer as the only way I know how to get games now are on GOG and steam. Thank you very much for the recomendations, it helped.
So I finally bought the first Jagged Alliance on here. I work long hours on weekends, so I will start the game on monday. Anything I should know before I start? any tips? I look forward to playing this, any help would be great, thanks!
1st and 2nd JA are different games. JA2 is much more evolved than JA1.

As for tips on JA1 ( minor SPOILER alert):

- gon't assume you can get a full and descent squad rightaway
- starting from early on in the game, perhaps day 2, use 1 guy to repair (Speck is great as he's good and cheap)
- you need a team which covers all requirements (weapon skill, explosives, lockpick, etc)
- don't waste all your starting money on a team, you probably start with 3 or 4 mercs
- accept the native offered to you or decline and chose the following. They are at least good mules
- scavenge the starting area for stuff. Always check the entire map for items
- never go swimming without a knife in hand. Preferably never go swimming at all
- you will receive the least amount of attacks from sectors which aren't bound by land to your sectors
- you will receive some subquests, some of which you will need to give priority to
- some items can be combined, some require someone with high repair skill to be combined. Save pieces of metal for the good weapons at the end
- locked doors can be shot open if you have a good weapon, or can be destroyed with a grenade
JA 2 is one of the best games ever made (it is a strategy RPG hybrid, as is JA 1). I never completed JA 1 or JA:Deadly Games and it has been a long time since I tried playing those but I will warn you, JA...while great (especially for it's time) is not in the same realm as JA2. JA2 is to JA what The Avengers (recent movie) is to the 1960s Marvel Super Heroes cartoon (featuring the Avengers).

JA2 is complex though. Enough so that I would never recommend the game to any but a hard core strategy/RPG and tactics fan.
