Hello all,

I've recently got myself a copy of the game but it just won't work on Windows 11 Home. It does start with black screen I get two seconds of music then everything stops and I have to kill the game process. It's running on version 1.12 as far as I know (readme).

Can someone point me in the right direction on how this can be resolved?

Remember playing this game a while back, would love to bring back some memories.

the same with me, Windows 11, today I bought the vanilla JA2 GOG, after start just black screen, two beep sounds, and thats all.... Pitty, I suggested that GOG games are fixed for new Windows compatability.... :-(

How were you able to fix this? I just tried installing this and encountered a similar issue.

Removing the file Intro.slf from game folder solved the issue for me

As an alternative, deactivate the full screen optimization in the compatibility settings. This way the intro plays fine.

Check my fix post also, if your game stutters and behaves choppy/frames drop hard.

Ah yes, the full screen optimization, my first move is to always disable it. That and disabling notifications when a game is running, or something else is running full screen.

AFAIK, the full screen optimization is a trick to have a program requesting exclusive full screen believing it has exclusive full screen, while not really having it, so Alt-Tab is smoother, and notifications can still show up.

In practice it doesn’t fare well, too often imho. One could expect the trick is refined enough nowadays to work on old games such as JA2, but well, no.

You can give "Jagged Alliance 2 Stracciatella" a try. This is how I'm playing JA2.

It works for me too. i think your comment is right solution.

It's the games internal video player that causes problems, it can't handle the full screen optimization.

Use CnCDDraw

Just extract content to your Jagged Alliance 2 Root folder.
there is a little cnc-ddraw config.exe, which lets you configure some stuff.

then start with the normal JA2.exe, works flawlessly with Windows 11.
