You don't need wine3d, just the dll wrapper part.

I had success with this github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat, Just copy the ddraw.dll on the same folder as ja2.exe.

Solved the same issue with the DDRaw file, but but now the mouse keeps jumping whenever I open a submenu (like the training menu on the strategic screen). Anybody else has this?

EDIT:
Solved this by turning on "never move my mouse" in the options menu.

Did you get it to run in native resolution (640x420) at full screen?
