Works this version correct with a widescreen-display? My old boxed-version is only stretched and looks awful!
I've had the same problem with the stretched screen, but after changing a setting within my widescreen monitor's on-screen menu, it's looking fine (= correct aspect ratio, black bars on both sides).
It's an HP model and in the on-screen menu I had to enable the "Custom Scaling / Fill to aspect ratio" option, which only became available after I had started JA2. Other manufacturers' monitors may have a similar option.

Try disabling crossfire, if crossfire is on the mouse will leave trails.
I'm suddenly having problems with the game. I run it as administrator in Win7 and it worked fine (although I got the same error message about the game not working when I end it.) What happens now is that I start up a saved game and order the mercs to move and the screen freezes, then goes back to Windows while I get the message about the game having stopped working. :/
I can't get the game to run at all. Every time I try I get a "stopped working error message". Any suggestions?

Hard to say without more details but for starters DO NOT install the game to the default 'Program Filesx86' location. It leads to many problems for many who try to play JA2. Install the game to a different folder like 'C://Games/Jagged Alliance2' or some such. After installing right click on the desktop shortcut and click on the "properties" tab, then 'compatibility' and check the box "Always run as administer".

Same for me... Win7 x64.

Checking the application event logs I can see constant references to Desktop Window Manager whenever JA2 is running. Since I nalso notice some graphical issues (mouse cursor disappearing).

DWM seems to be handling the Aero theme (some fancy W7 interface I suppose) which I don't use. I will try and disable DWM and see if I get better results...
Since I am already spending time making all GoG games that I buy portable, I may as well share my solution for JA2 with others. If you follow these steps, the game will run under Windows 7 x64 without admin rights (regular user rights are sufficient):

1) Get the unpacked game files. Personally, I run the game installer in a virtual environment with plain old Windows XP and when it finishes, I copy the files to the real computer.

2) Move the game files to a folder outside of the standard Windows structure. I use D:\Games\JA2 and similar.

3) Change access rights to subdirectories SavedGames and Temp to allow write and delete access to anyone. E.g. cacls SavedGames /G Users:RWC

4) Create a shortcut to ja2.exe file (if needed).

That's all. No need for compatibility settings, no need to run the game as administrator.

To follow up on my last post...

After checking the application logs my theory was that Desktop Windows Manager was somehow interfering with JA2 making it randomly crash to desktop after a few minutes. Running as admin or any compatibility mode did not help and I already had the game installed in an unprotected folder so permissions shouldn't be a problem.

What I did was to locate the service responsible for DWM and disable it.
This might not work for other experiencing similar issues but it does seem to work for me.
If you're also having random crashes you could at least give it a try.

Just locate Desktop Windows Manager Session Manager among your services (Administrative tools/services), set it to disabled and restart your computer. This will however probably cancel the possibility to use the Aero theme.

I can also add that I checked the Disable visual theme and desktop composition boxes on the compatibility tab for JA2 but this didn't seem to have any effect.

I should also add that I haven't had any random crash YET. Since they've been random I can't be really sure... And I still get the error message when quitting but that I can live with...

Hopefully this will help someone!
