I bought Jagged Alliance 2 in hopes that I would play the game again. I ran across a site that included the 1.13 patch: http://ja2v113.pbworks.com/w/page/4218345/Installation

I downloaded as per instructed and used the specific order in which patches to extract to the directory. I ended up screwing up the game somehow and tried to use a smackw32.dll but it doesn't work. I ended up having a fatal error on JA2.

I am wondering how did anyone manage to work through this game on Gog.com and get away with it working on 1.13? Any advice? Any pointers on where to find it? What sites have the cleanest files to download? What specific order do you recommend to ensure the game works?

I'm sorry you haven't received more posts, they will come. However most of this group have run the 1.13 patch. It does work. I suspect you've just had a bad install.

From the pbworks downloads page you must get 2 files, the 4452 release that you install first and then the 4552 Update that you install on top of the Official Release. The 2 installers are a bit of a problem, especially with the page's layout, so I'd suggest you grab Tais' Single Click Installer from the thread here. Ignore the warning of the "Unstable" one, since the current one (4604) is pretty stable, and has a few more bugfixes than the official release.

I do not know if that mod works with the GOG version, because I only have the the boxed gold edition.

There are currently 2 Deidrianna Lives! (DL!) mods. One is the original from MOD Squad, the second is DL-1.13 which is maintained by Wil473 over at The Bear's Pit
If I recall, the original used a modified exe, so it should work with GOG.com version, the new one runs on 1.13 executable/engine, so it should also work with GOG.com version. However, I'm not really sure if the DL-1.13 has been released, check the link above for more info.
