JA2 = IMHO best turn-based tactical combat game (with strategy and RPG elements, plus kind-of realistic military equipment) EVER. Better than XCOM. If you get the 1.3 mod, then it becomes even better still.

Back In Action = screwed things up pretty badly from JA2 based on the reviews I've read.

The only negative I would have from JA2 would be that your inventories can get massive, especially stuff you leave at a location, and it can get a little bit fiddly moving all the stuff around in the later stages of the game - but that's a minor issue that shouldn't stop you!

No probs.

"I see the evil people!"

Yeah Steroid cracked me up, I thought of Arnie as well, and he's almost always in my starting lineup since he's a cheap mechanic with decent shooting ability. The only problem is he's really slow, in both senses of the word - he doesn't get as many shots in as others because of his action points, and his low wisdom means he doesn't advance very fast either.

BTW you playing vanilla or 1.13? The 1.13 is awesome - people suggest playing Vanilla first, but I *think* you can turn off all the 1.13 "added" features anyway (but it fixes some bugs apparently). Personally I like the new firing system they implemented, plus they added even more guns, almost to the point of being ridiculous - like they have two versions of a Desert Eagles to buy, yet the only difference far as I can tell is the color! But they have so many attachments.

Best of all in my view is they totally revamped the inventory system - instead of just a few generic pockets for everyone, you can now buy different combat vests, holsters, backpacks (which can be removed to move faster in combat) - each of which has different slots for different sizes and types of weapons. Could be a bit overwhelming at first (took me ages to figure out what would be useful to buy), but it adds both realism and (I think) more/better carrying capacity.

The new shooting mechanism is also kind of cool - they added the ability to aim when firing in automatic or burst mode - although I'm starting to think that it may be a bit over-powered since I'm getting full-auto hits a lot. It can be tweaked, but the settings are... well there are a LOT of settings.

They also added mobile militia, plus lots of other things I can't remember (well it's on their website anyway - I can't actually remember where I got it from but I think there are other threads on this board that list it).

Glad you enjoy it though - it's just a shame they screwed up BIA so badly. I actually didn't know they removed the personalities from the mercs, since that's one of the best parts - especially when you get them hating/liking each other, as the comments are pretty funny. Especially from that guy from Merc who just got out of rehab - I won't spoil it for you, just keep an eye on him! :)

Yeah its because of that mercs have there personality that makes the merc unique and every person has there own mercs that they like. Yeah he is slow but he is strong and he kills many foes in my grp, i got barry in the grp and spider and off course my character. But I still need to get used to the game. Need to learn how to apprach enemies because i got a large dissadvandedge and that is range since all of them carry pistols. I am attacking the drassen airport atm but the first fight there was a bit hard since I have to get in the open so I am at risk getting hit I do have 2 medics in my party spider and Ira. I didnt know you could dual wield in this game stereids blasting more bullets at the enemy wich I changed becaus he has more attacks then but he wouldnt hit anything. But I used to play a long time ago and i remember that you can buy stuff when the airport is cleared so I have to try to get trought this.

It's probably too late since you've already hired your first squad, but a good tactic is to hire at least one expensive merc that comes with automatic weapons - but only for one day! That should be enough to secure Drassen (and then some), after which time you'll hopefully be getting some income and of course can order weapons from online gun store.

I remember the very first time I played years ago I had this issue - just one guy with an automatic weapon, or at least a weapon with decent range, makes so much difference in the first few battles. But like you know, once you can order stuff in it's not a problem.

Also some characters have "ambidextrous" trait - they can dual-wield without any penalties. If they don't have that trait I wouldn't bother.

Well it was a test run to see how all work again now you mention expensive merc I remembered I used to hire lynx he was very good at a distant. Btw I play the vanilla because people reckomanned it. Oh well since I only cleared the start area and 1 area . I have seen a lets play of back in action and I have to say the original you feel more close to the people you want to free because you meet the resistance early on and you feel that those people are getting oppresed and they live in fear and the gane lets you know how dangerous and evil she is. Oh jeah forgot to mention the original one your enemies make sure that they hide very well while in back in action you got suicidal maniacs that run to you with close combat weapons wich idiot in with a right mind run with a machete to a shot gun wielding guy.

For me the most memorable part of the game is the cut scenes where the Evil Queen is informed about something from her second-in-command (?) (Elliot I think his name is?) - and how his face changes every time! Just found that to be a really funny detail... :)
