It's October 21 today... can anyone confirm if the installer has been updated from 1.0.0F to 1.01?

As far as I can tell, yes. I've downloaded it just now. When you start the game and the Sir-Tech logo comes up, it says "Version: Release V.1.01 (Build 01.01.08)" There's also a Patch.txt file that says it's for version 1.01.
However, I'm getting the "No CD in drive" error now, which I wasn't before. At least you can just hit "Continue" to get past it. Oh well.

The latest version is 1.07. 1.06 is preferable to 1.07. Will GOG.com update the installer to the most recent patch?

I assume you're talking about Jagged Alliance 2, they are talking about different version...
