TLDR-my two questions are at the bottom, below the page break.

So I bought this game through Steam, since I prefer to buy games through cash/cards as opposed to online transactions. As some of you might know (and what I wish I'd researched), the Steam version is a fucked up mess. The two primary problems, and the ones I am currently suffering from;

1) The Config utility does not work because it won't properly access the Steam.dll file.

2) The mouse cursor does not appear at all in game. I have attempted compatibility mode (Windows XP 2 & 3, specifically), resolution changes, and a few other things, and none of it works.

Naturally, I have posted a thread in the steam forums, as have many before me. Also naturally, all responders are either;

A) Lazy fucks who claim to have solved these twin issues and didn't bother to post the answers (or worse, redirect me to posts and dropboxes with 404 errors);
B) Trolls;
C) Others who have the same problem.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------

So, the reason why I am posting this thread is to pose a pair of questions to the GOG community;

*Does the GOG version of Jade Empire fix the aforementioned two problems?
*Does anyone here know how to fix these twin problems for the Steam version on Windows 8.1?

According to many users, the GOG version is more stable on latest OS.
Take a look at this thread and this one to read other users' experience with the game.

About the missing cursor, this user says that the GOG version fixes that issue as well.
I for one have not experienced either of these problems after hours and hours of play. The only major bug that the GOG version has that I know of is the low FPS issue, but that's a problem with the port that exists across all versions. If your computer has been running for a long period of time (e.g. a week or so) then you'll get a terrible framerate. Restart your computer and the game will run fine.
