Retrodude805: Downloaded and installed the game, and when I go to the configuration tool, it attempts to collect system information but freezes about 1/3 of the way through.
My computer's running Windows 7 x64 with a Radeon R7 240 graphics card, an AMD A10 processor and 8 GB or RAM. I know some older games i own have had trouble when detecting newer hardware in the past, but I've never had a configuration program freeze because of it. Any ideas on what to do?
It's a very common problem with Jade Empire, the configuration utility simply freeze, there is no stable workaround in my knowledge
Fortunately you don't need the configuration utility to set up the game, most video options can be changed inside the game options menu, and the remaining ones can be modified in the "JadeEmpire.ini" file situated in the game folder, just under the executable ,where all graphical options are labelled quite clearly with the same name the config utility use
With your hardware Jade Empire should work properly with full settings no problem, otherwise simply bypass the configuration altogether and use CCC to set up a profile for the game and override all settings, this second solution is probably the best one anyway, just do not set the tessellation to max, it's slow down the game for some reason
Another common problem with Windows 7 and old games, is that when the executable is launched the game do not actually start, instead in the task manager the executable is present but in a sort of permanent stasis, with little to no CPU and Memory usage and no responsiveness whatsoever
Usually running the executable a second time and remembering to terminate the first one solve the problem, but it may not be enough, especially if the dreaded rundll32 rise up it's ugly head and slowly eat up all your PC resources for no apparent reason
This secondary problem is given by the 2 dll called "gameux.dll", responsible to run and update the "Games" section of Windows 7, unfortunately it seems that old games are not handled correctly and the system end up putting itself in an infinite loop trying to categorize them pointlessly
If this happen to you, you'll need to un-register the above mentioned dll from your system and then remove them from "windows\system32" and "windows\SysWOW64" folder respectively
Just move them somewhere else
After having un-registered them
