I think it is not about piracy but about weak management. Two weeks have passed and nobody decide it would be professional to inform community what is going on with release date for gog and consoles releases. Nor on Gog side nor on 3D Realms side. Something like "sorry after steam release we found too many bugs and we want yo fix them for You" would be enough to calm down our worries and do not make us feel like second class customers.
If 3D Realms was going to maximise their income they should release game day one according to trailer for both steam, gog and consoles. Just when interest in game was biggest. They have their event and that was perfect date to have freevadvert in media. I am sure that after those two weeks there is already pirate release for such small game. Soon other games will be released and people will move their focus to other titles.
How to fix this mess?
Voidpoint:
- fix it and realese it,
- take a break and think what will You do next,
- hire more people who knows how to code / work with build engine,
- write better contract with 3D Realms / whoever is You boss, earn more money and make it Your full time job
3D Realms:
- You have many great projects going on under Your wings but You lack management over them,
- if there is project that is not update / release on time talk with Your developer
- maybe their lack management over their project, need more staff or money
- communicate with Your fans what is going on
GoG:
- hire more people to work on quality of Your shop, on communication with customers
- I am sure You have some lawyers/ legal staff, hire more people, look for old games that is still not on Your shop
- use real world events to promote new games
If it is ubi soft sales put games on Your shop like Far Cry 3 or Blood Dragon
If it is 3d realms deep event get their games on Your shop
If it is id Software/Bethesda event get Rage, Rage2 ,Wolfenstein 2009, Prey on You shop
Etc, etc, etc
You catch my drift
