Can't we simply keep ourselves technical in this topic?

Voidpoint has demonstrated that this engine can make an awesome, awesome game.

There is no reason that more games can be made in this engine.

There is also no need for games to be made in this engine. People can make fully 3d games that are awesome, encouraging backtracking, none of the close-all-doors-behind-you rubbish. I thnk my favorite game would be Hexen 2 (Quake engine, fully 3D, no sprite crap, not that sprites and voxels are bad, I prefer good gameplay over good visuals any day, which is why I loved Ion Fury so much).

There is also nothing preventing another prequel - as pointed out already, Shelly still has some story between the games she's in.

Just because another prequel wouldn't have OGAY soap boxes, doesn't mean it wouldn't be a great game.

I want it to happen!

Sevnarco: With the way they are bending over to appease a minority of mentally ill mutants , it might just be their last build game.

RawSteelUT: You disgusting troglodyte. How sad that you can't see past your own bigotry.

I would not be opposed, at all, to more Build engine games. The potential for Ken Silverman's little engine is quite amazing. Still amazes me how much atmosphere can come from just a few megs.
Well Troglodite or not, I agree with him. They sullied their name pretty badly with the community who buy this kind of game... we may be finally kissing 3D Realms goodbye.

Agreed... this insults across isles bullshit doesnt change anything. 3D Realms may have CRITICALLY wounded themselves on this.

HOWEVER, it should be noted 3D Realms is NOT BUILD. Even if they go down, someone could buy the engine in the liquidation and see it still used.

3DRealms doesn't own the Build engine, the original creator owns it.
3DRealms just paid for a license to use it in a commercial product.

Well, Build is open-source, so that's not entirely accurate. Open-source is what allows eduke32 to exist.

That being said, let's be real, they're the only ones who seem to care enough to make a new commercial game with this engine.

I think you're overstating just how prevalent the tiki torcher mindset is among gamers. 3DR will likely be fine.

Yes it is open source but it doesn't automatically mean you can do whatever you want with it. As far as i know you can only use the engine to make free products like eduke32.
If you want to sell something you made with the engine you need a license to use the engine for commercial use.

Seems to be hard to find info about the engine's legal stuff, so i can't be sure if what i said is correct, i didn't find anything about who owns the rights to the engine so i assume it is still owned by Silverman.

And I think you overestimate how many people who were displeased at the promise their bought product would be censored after the fact are of the "tikitorch mindset"

It's not really open source per the OSI definition. Yes, Silverman still owns the engine he wrote, and he's still distributing copies of it, and you still need a license from him if you want to use it for a commercial product (or distribute it on media other than the internet).

Ok, my assumption was correct then.
Yeah, open source software is different than just releasing the source code to public. I'm aware of the difference, i just wasn't paying enough attention to the wording i used.
How prophetic.

Gold.
Kinda reminds me what that dude from Google said a few months back "We're not censoring we're just hiding stuff we don't want people to see". lol
