I had never gotten to play games like Duke Nukem 3D, or Doom Classic before I played Doom (2016) on the Switch I got interested once I got to play Ion Fury I couldn't put it down, such an amazing game. The last levels and final boss where a major letdown though, still. I am looking forward to the mods and fan made expansions for the game!
If you wish to go from here, try playing Duke Nukem. It is still available for modern systems. Even should you buy older versions, you can use the eDuke32 source port to play it in modern Windows.

Will do, heard eduke32 is the best way to play duke nukem 3D as the input lag is horrible on modern versions, can I buy 3D world tour and use it's files to play on eduke 32?
Yes. I've done it. However, seems like compatibility is higher with older version of Duke. I'm not sure whether that's still the case though.

On another point, I realised Ion Fury works with eDuke32. I get better performance using with eDuke32 than by itself somehow.

I'll echo everyone else and say that you really should go back and play Duke 3D and the original Doom games. While Duke 3D was taken off GOG after 3DR lost the rights, the physical PS4/Xbox One version of Duke Nukem 3D World Tour is $20 most places. Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom and Doom 3 BFG Edition are on GOG, and while Doom 3 is more of a horror type game, the old Doom games are an absolute adrenaline ride.

Back to Ion Fury, however. I really only felt let down by the final boss. Couldn't really blame the last levels for being a bit industrial, seeing as they were doing the whole interconnected levels thing a la Half-Life and Heskel's fortress was the only logical end. HOWEVER, they could have done a lot better than a glorified zerg rush with a tiny ass weakspot. You'll realize this after the final boss of Duke 3D, which is absolutely breathtaking.

I've never enjoyed duke, at all. Blood seems decent but I haven't played it...

So if I can make a recommendation, try Doom or Dusk. Dusk is fine as-is, but I think Doom requires a source port and maybe some mods to really shine. And there are amazing community wads for Doom that put any commercial game to shame... see e.g.:
