Please fix the bowling bombs. I don't know why but they often ignore the enemy that is right in front of me and target something else which sucks when you are out of ammo and these things are your only useful weapon at the moment. Maybe use the loverboy alt fire mechanic on the bombs too so they actually hit the correct target.
The bowling bombs have been nerfed:

I did some testing and figured it out. Bowling bombs now seem to no longer home in automatically when you simply throw them. Now, it requires you to charge them up by holding down the fire button before releasing. When homing becomes active, you'll see a twinkle plus the power bar starts flashing. You need to charge it up half way to activate it, after which it follows the original behavior.

Well that's interesting. I've to check that for myself. Thanks for letting me know about this.

mk47at: The bowling bombs have been nerfed:
I'm not a huge fan of the changes that they've made to the function of the bowling bombs...

Even when I wait for the meter at the bottom to get all twinkly, I've still had some bowling bombs decide that they're just going to travel in a straight line, maybe bounce off a wall or curb, and then just stop dead in the middle of the street without doing anything. I do much prefer the way that they were functioning originally.

In the old classic Build engine games, the counterpart weapon to the bowling bomb (pipe bomb, sticky grenade, dynamite, etc) required you to hold down the fire button at times, but this was purely to increase the force used to throw it farther - It had absolutely nothing to do with charging them. You could just throw it and forget about it, which is what I would expect here in IM too.
Although, in the changelog for version 4.1 it does say the following:
Fixed a bug which could cause the Bowling Bomb not to lock on a target. Also decreased Bowling Bomb charge time before lock on ability is granted.
I haven't really played version 4.1 yet, so in all fairness I don't yet know if there is a noticeable improvement, but I certainly haven't cared for it in Update 3 r7299 to Update 4 r7317.

Update 4 was never available here. The version on GOG went directly from 2 to 4.1 skipping 3 and 4.

Ya, 4 was briefly available on Steam. 4.1 came out two days later due to some unexpected bugs in version 4.

Did you buy the game at both shops?

Yes, I've purchased it from 3DR, GOG, and Steam.

Until earlier today, I only had the newly renamed "Ion Maiden - DEMO" from GOG. Back when I made my initial purchase here on GOG, I bought the Bombshell Digital Deluxe Edition soley because I though that I was going to get the "exclusive beta access" that the advertising for Bombshell had promised. I was woefully disappointed to find out after the fact that there wasn't anything exclusive about it... It was just the same version available elsewhere,

C'est la vie. I don't mind purchasing it a few times from different vendors to be able to try out various incremental versions though, In fact, I purchased it again here on GOG today, and if they remake the big box set, or offer a physical CD/DVD version, I'll buy it again then too. :)
