As a Greek I alway liked computer games based in my country's mythology. Invictus is one of them although not 100% accurate as there are a lot of fantasy features (like Arachnes, a heroine never appeared in Greek mythology).
Invictus is a mix of rts and rpg genres. You begin your quest by selecting 2 heroes out of 10 (you can have 4 later) plus some warriors from different types of units (swordsmen, archers, spearmen etc or ever mythological creatures like centaurs). Each hero has his own abilities, strengths and weaknesses.
Each level is a huge map full of cities, quests and beasts to overcome. The gameplay is not something new and runs smoothly. You just have to explore each map, collect helpful items and defeat Poseidon's evil forces. At the end of each level you can purchase new warriors or update the existing ones so that you will be able to overcome the harder levels later.
Overall it's a good game. It's not something new or something that will make you go crazy but it's addictive, fun and will keep you playing for many many hours. After all, a well-made mythological strategy game for %5.99 it's a bargain, isn't it?
I'm Polish, but I love Greek mythology too :) And I think You are wrong - Arachne appeared there. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachne.
Returning to Invictus - I played that game when I was child, and IMO it is good game for people that likes mythology, but for others it may be a little boring. But price is so low, that it's worthy to pay that 6 dollars ;)

Hey people! I'm a half Cypriot (from the 'greek' side) and I've just got to say something.. Did either one of you remember the fact that 'arachne' (pronounced arakhni) also means 'spider' in the greek language? I just took a quick glance at the wiki link but I'd say by the looks of it it's a mythos tale about how spiders came to be or something like that :)
ANYWAY!
I played Invictus years ago and back then I only had the demo. I remember it being interesting but I have to admit I'm hesitating to buy it - I just keep thinking "back then I hadn't played much but nowadays my gaming history is quite excessive so will I like it anymore?"..
Guess I'll take a look soon. As far as I remember I really liked it =)
Well, Invictus is a latin word.
If memory serves, Ariadne gets turned into a spider by the Gods (Athena, I think) for being a better weaver than she.
Arachne is likely to be a roman corruption of the name Ariadne. Certainly, spiders are of the genus Arachnus, and are known as Arachnids, and the latter two terms are definetly from the Latin.
*shrugs*
How does the game compare to others of its period and genre, I've never played it.

No, Ariadne is the girl in the Theseus-Mintoaur story.
Arachne is the girl who gets turned into a spider for being dumb and vain enough to tell a goddess a mortal can best her at weaving. :)

Yes, Arachne appears as a name in Greek mythology... but she was not a heroine ;)
