Anyone tried this title using virtualbox and winxp (on a 64 bit host vista/win7)?
Since I hear there are huge problems on x64 this might fix it. But I have yet to buy this and I don't want to waste my money. So can anyone from you people who have problems on x64 test this?
Virtualbox is free just so btw, and it supports 3d if you enable it. You just need a good enough cpu with hardware assisted virtualization support.
IIRC none of the VM's support D3D lower than 8 and I76 uses either D3D 6 or 7.
So you'd have to run the game in either software or glide mode. (Glide mode in a VM will only work on an NT based guest and a VM that supports OGL acceleration)
So your last option would be software mode on a 9x guest. Since VirtualBox is shiat for 9x you are better off with VPC or Vmware. (In that order).
If you plan on using VPC then avoid the last version that uses RDP (IIRC don't install the integration components and I *think* RDP isn't used). Ideally though you'd use VPC 2007 or 2004.
So yeah until a better emulator product comes along that supports 9x officially and supports 3D Acceleration you are better off running it on the host or on an older machine.
You *might* be able to run I76 on Windows 95 in glide mode using Gulikoza's DOSBox build.....mabye.

This sounds quite bad... I know virtualbox is not working for 98, thought I could get the game running in xp. Seems i was wrong, thanks the tips :)
