This isn't your average game. It's a Mad Max meets 70's funk car combat sim.
Sim is an important word, this isn't Carmageddon or Twisted Metal, it's more like Mechwarrior or Tie Fighter, with keys for targeting different enemies, different camera viewpoints, the option to choose your weapon and armour loadouts (and balance the weight) and the need to protect the damaged areas of your car.
The story it great. Presented as a 70s tv show, it still has great characters and voice acting, and is set in a credible world. The music rocks.
The world is mostly barren Arizona deserts, canyons and abandoned gas stations, but the environments are realistically modelled and you can have fun just cruising around and trying to make a few of the insane jumps.
Like many space-combat sims of the time, the missions can sometimes be very hard, and you have to know where you need to be to intercept the incoming raiders, but the missions are fair. The only real flaw is that the AI drivers sometimes get caught up on the landscape.
Other than that, this is one of my all time favourite games, and I hope everyone else has as much fun with it as I did.
(Joystick recommened, but probably not essential).
