Hey everyone I used to play I76 pretty much constantly online and I'd like to get started again with it. I don't know if anyone on here has played with me before back in the 90's? Everyone used to use Smidge.com as a main hub for interstate activity, with organised ganng matches most evening and every weekend.
The AVA site is still open (or elements of it are) if anyone is interested in the old time rules and regulations of I76 play. It was the way we used to play the right way "SS" so called "Straight shooting" no turrets or seaking missiles, mainly 7.62MG aside an Aim-Nein on the roof of a Courchelle with a WP out back.
There was also the other way, using Hex32 editor users could max their strength, change paintjobs, wheels and hardpoints for weapons - vehicles could even be made to fly. Has anyone got to grips with any of this editing on the version downloadable from GOG? If anyone is interested I still have BiG FreAkZ original Hack76 the first version. This can be fun in Instant Melée but was frowned upon when playing online with the AVA.

Anyway enough babbling I have read a few posts on here about getting some online gaming sorted does anyone actually have a regular server that they can host games on? I am think about hosting on mine but using a wireless hub it is harder to get a dedicated IP. But I would love to join you guys in blowing shit up online, I have I76, Nitro Riders and I82 all running on original CDs and am willing to join in! I have spoken to Activision regarding online play, obviously their servers no longer exist so they have sent me here to seek out some shootage. So hope to hear from you guys soon :)
I would play. There are a couple ways to play i76 online. For example using IPX emulator Kali or VPN tunngle. I also would like to test this http://www.gog.com/en/forum/interstate_76_arsenal/i_76_router_fix
But we need more than two players.

Come on I76 fans there must be more out there who wish to help with testing!
I remember playing against you and I remember spending hours on Smidge.com. Back then I went by the name Nash back then. Glad to see a name I remember from back in the old days.
Hopefully there are more people out there who wanna go a round in multiplayer (besides me, of course).

If you're up for a match, contact me over Steam, >RoF< Maxaxle.
Good to see someone still hanging on to fond memories of the AVA! I hope someday there will be a car combat game good enough to revive it.

Hey Zaphod!

Yeah, I'76 remains terribly broken, and to be honest, GoG should have pulled it a while ago.

Although you probably already know about it, Darkwinds is the closest thing we get to I'76/Car Wars these days, and while it's a decent recreation of Car Wars, it's also a massive time sink, which is why I don't bother playing.

Drive offensively!
