Hey there,

i got I '76 to work as proper as possible on Win 7 64Bit, thanks to the Arsenal Launcher (except from some music issues) and now would like to ask if there's a way to replace the voices with the german ones. I have the german version of I '76 original, but i'm not a programmer or something similar tech-savy to look it up myself. Specifically i want the cutscenes and ingame voice audio, the textures ingame and -menu doesn't really matter.

Back in the day, some games like Quake and Jedi Knight used something like a compressed file to contain voice samples and stuff. If Interstate 76 has this also maybe, would it be possible?

Not sure if it will work but you can try the following:

Cutscenes:
replace the SMK files with the ones from your CD

default in C:\GOG Games\Interstate 76 Arsenal\Interstate 76\smk\

Voice:
replace the I76.ZFS file with yours but you need the GOLD or ARSENAL (it may come with Nitro) version in German
default in C:\GOG Games\Interstate 76 Arsenal\Interstate 76\I76.ZFS

The game will crash if you use the normal pre-patched original I76.ZFS since it is uncompressed. A search on the internet revealed that there may not be a german version of the gold/arsenal versions. You could extract the audio files from the original german ZFS file and put it inside the new zfs and it might work, that is tedious though.
ok here is how to get the german voices in the new zfs file or even put your own dialogue in it. It works, I tried it.

google makeZFS/makeZIX and it will take you to some battlezone forum, download the files

0. MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR GOG ARSENAL VERSION I76.ZFS file
C:\GOG Games\Interstate 76 Arsenal\Interstate 76

1. unzip the makeZFS only into an empty folder that you rename to GOG
eg C:\Users\******\Downloads\GOG

2. place the I76.ZFS from the GOG Arsenal version inside that folder

3. start command prompt (click on widnows button, type cmd and then enter, on windows 7)

4. in command prompt (like DOS) go to the folder you have put the makeZFS exe
(eg type without quotemarks
cd downloads\GOG enter
after you type some words you can press tab and windows will fill the rest of the word eg if you write
cd down and press tab, the word will autocomplete to downloads)

5. type makeZFS.exe x I76.ZFS enter this will decompress everything.

6. Delete the I76.ZFS file

7. Now repeat the process for the I76.ZFS of the german version (in a NEW fodler that you rename to OLD) and extract all the files

8. Now, take the WAV files only from the OLD folder and copy them
to the GOG fodler. It should overwrite them

9. In the command prompt window in the GOG folder , type
makeZFS.exe a I76.ZFS *.*
this will compress everything in a new I76.ZFS file (remember you should have deleted the other one)

10. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE MADE A BACKUP OF YOUR GOG I76.ZFS file found in
C:\GOG Games\Interstate 76 Arsenal\Interstate 76

11. Copy and paste the I76.ZFS file you made (from downloads\Gog folder) into the
C:\GOG Games\Interstate 76 Arsenal\Interstate 76

Now you should have the game in german

Let me know how it works out
Sorry that it took so long for me to respond but i had some RL things that had to get higher priority in the past. I will definetly try this out and report.

EDIT: Now i have to find that damn original CD...

Damn CD's I know. I love the simplicity of GOG and Steam, but I miss the old boxes damn it. I even miss the old boxes wiht the floppies in it. It still is so exciting to see the screenshots on the cover. A 2cm by 2cm screenshot looks fantastic, until you start the game ... :P

By the way, although you should get the german voices, there might be a problem with the dialogue ingame. When I said I tried the above process, I did but I used same length audio. I am not sure what will happen when you put different lenght audio files.

Keep us posted. I76b is one of my top 10 games ever!
OK, nearly one year has passed, i still haven't found my CDs, and although i completely reorganised my games when i moved to another city 2 months ago they didn't turned up. So I was stalking ebay a bit in the past and finally made a fair deal for Interstate 76 on sunday, which arrived today. I'll try right away and keep you guys informed.

EDIT: Replaced the Cutscenes, repacked the I76.zsf like Pamphagus said, started the game (in Software-Mode) and it worked! Thanks, Pamphagus. Now I'd like to share the german version with other GOGers. Should i mail these files to GOG or use something like a 1-click hoster? What do you guys think?

Years have passed and if it‘s still possible, I‘d be grateful if the german files could be shared :)
