Tried every guide I could find to try and get this game to actually load into gameplay.
Using windows compatibility mode (95/98/xp all work) cutscenes played fine and the menus worked.
Whenever you would try to go into training or anything else involving gameplay it would CTD.
I tried the DXWND fixes I saw and they didn't work but it did lead me to start poking around in the settings until I found a fix.
Solution
Download and install DXWND
Load DXWND
Set your game name as I82, I82Stub or Interstate 82. It should not make a difference.
Set your Path and Launch options to point to "Your game install directory"/i82stub.exe
Goto the I/O tab.
Check the boxes for "Fix buffered IO after Win98" and "Hide empty CDROM Drives"
Now goto the DirectX tab and under DirectX version hook select "None"
Next in the Compat. tab Check off "Reserve legacy memory segments" "Fake Pentium III" "Fix FreeLibrary" "Fix LoadLibrary error" "Handle Exceptions" "Hook GOG libs" and tick Fake Version as "Windows 95"
Press try in the bottom left corner and see if it will now let you past menu/cutscenes and into the loading screen/actual gameplay.
If so press ESC, Exit Interstate 82 and press the OK button on the DXWND window.
If this worked use DXWND to launch I82 from now on.
If you still have issues try the other guides that exist for DXWND but this fix worked perfectly for me.
This worked on a current updated version of Windows 10 with up to date drivers and software as of 3/30/25.
Running on a z690 carbon wifi, i7 12700k, 32 gb ddr5 6400 ram, 4070 super and the game installed on a samsung 860 evo sataiii ssd.
