Well, you're talking about the original game disc before the GOG version existed, right?
This was a long time ago, but from what I remember (I was on Windows 7 32bits at that time and it would work without further tweakings) all you had to do was download the Gold patch and download an additional launcher that would kill explorer.exe for you (this can also be done manually)
For Windows 10 there must be additional steps, since (from what I read over the years) newer versions of Windows removed the DirectDraw capabilities entirely, so you'll need to find a way to reactivate these again. Good ole Mycrotchsoft messing with things that are perfectly functional.
You can try DxWnd trying to run the game from there, it works for the software renderer.
And last but not least make sure to also download the recent "AiO Patch" or whatever they call it (my other thread there) which will add some further fixes for the games, this patch fixes the weird physics bugs like Taurus moving too slow or turrets not aiming correctly. From what I gathered, this newer patch is compatible with both the original disc versions as well as the GOG version.
At some point in time, I remember reading something like "a fixed Database.MW2 file" but I don't know if that is still necessary. Too much stuff about this game... the GOG version makes everything easier and it's the only one I have now. (discs scratched, backups lost)
