Spent about 2 hours trying to get multiplayer working. No luck. Apparently all the Activision servers for Interstate 76 are down, which means there's probably no way to get Internet play working. And Modem is out. IPX is an incredible hassle to set up. So right now there's no way to get multiplayer working.
Some help here would be great GOG, and we'd really appreciate it :). Really quite eager to get it running online. I read on the Interstate 76 forums that GOG mentioned the IP addresses that come with the game should be working, but it doesn't work on my end. If the Activision servers are still up, that'd be excellent news. In any case, can GOG clarify this part?
Activision servers have been down for many years now. I used to play a couple of years ago on some (unofficial?) server. I think this was the site url here: http://www.bz911.com/anet2/
Server address was 911.alink.namesdepot.net
EDIT: This might be worth a try:
"...and all you need to do to host a game on CLASSIC I'76 is to add YOUR IP address to the servers list and tell whoever you want to join what said IP address is...
Just a reminder:
If your IP address starts with a 10 or 192 you're ass out. "
EDIT EDIT: OK, I tried to host a game using my own IP. Got a "game server not responding" error.
So yeah, Any Support From Gog.com would be greatly appreciated!

Odd. I tried using Tunngle, but failed to host too.
Back in the day, we found that i76 and routers did not play nice. (the networking code in the game didn't work with NAT). If you want, you can try plugging your system directly into your cable/DSL modem, as long as it isn't an all-in-one router as well.
If that doesn't work, the next thing for us to try is one of the services that does IPX over TCP/IP.
I'm a network dummy so you're gonna have to guide me on that one.
Does this game use Dosbox? If so, I could help you all setting up IPX emulation in dosbox.

Thanks, but the game is for Windows only.

drmlessgames: thanks anyway :)
Later I'm going to try this out on Hamachi. I've heard Hamachi supports IPX, so it's worth a shot. Though I'm really quite tired of playing around with port forwarding, it's quite a hassle on Zonealarm.

Let us know how it goes.
I give up on trying, so...bump
Kali seems to work. Hosted a game there.
It costs $10 for a registration though - thats SGD14 in my local currency. I don't think I'll shell another 14 bucks just to play Interstate 76 on Kali.
The demo is free for a while. Blow stuff up for 30 days.
Seems that I also got it working using Kali... at least was able to host a game.
Anyone up for a match?
