I loved this game when it first came out, and I remember thinking it felt huge and open. Playing it now, it feels more linear than I remember, but it's still quite fun. The salvage system adds some depth, and it blends the line between "arcade" and "simulation" pretty well. The music is the perfect 70's funk to match the game's timeline. There are tons of classic muscle cars (albeit named differently for licensing purposes) and it's fun to try out different cars in Melee.
This release has some problems, though. The sky, and the circling death cam are both running at super-speed, most likely related to current hardware being far more than what the game was designed for. The AI cars also seem to glitch occasionally, and they will shake back and forth quickly while moving very slowly in a straight line. These aren't game breaking glitches, but they are very noticeable.
Still, this is a great game that brings back some good memories, and I'm glad it's available here.
