I have a problem running the game in D3D or Glide. Always pops up at startup message "Failed to initialize 3D hardware acceleration". In mode without 3D acceleration graphics look very bad (black sky, etc.).
My configuration:
Processor: AMD Phenom X2 550 Black Edition
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4770
System: Windows 7 32bit Professional

Yeah, having the same problem here with Windows 7 x64. I'm certain it's because of the OS.

This is looking like a Radeon issue.
Running Vista-32, with a HD4870.
If I update to latest drivers, I get this error. Rolling back to the ones that shipped with the card, it works fine.
(And somewhere along the line, my wobble wheel problem magically went away too. Weird.)

This seems to be the solution. I still need to use the batch file or the menus and movie clips will get all weird and scrambled.
But still. Now the game is playble.

It's good to know there is a fix that is only driver related. It's too bad I play lots of newer games as well. I can't really be bothered to roll back that far.
I wish I knew what file was causing the issue though. Usually you can just drop that file in the root of the game you're playing and it'll work.
I use an older atioglxx.dll for IL-2 for instance but am able to keep using the latest drivers

You might try that. Since the GOG version uses a Glide to OpenGL wrapper, and atioglxx.dll is the ATI OpenGL driver, it seems like a good place to start.

I gave it a shot just to see. Tried two older versions (Cat. 9.10, and 9.4 I believe).
I think it's more than OpenGL though seeing as the Direct X version also gives the same error.

It's really a driver problem from ATI.
I uninstalled my previous drivers, and Windows 7 automatically reinstalled the old ones from 2009.
Interstate 76 now works great using nGlide v1.00 both D3D and Glide/3DFX (in D3D it's slow, so I stuck with 3DFX).
Tested my other games and everything is working fine (Carmageddon with Glide Dosbox, NFS4 High Stakes in Directx9b mode).
Seems like we ATI/AMD users just can't update drivers.

My hardware is: core2duo notebook loaded with ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650 DDR3 512MB, Windows 7 32bits

found solution. Download dgVoodoo, and copy D3DImm.dll and DDraw.dll to gamefolder.

My system Win 7 x64 pro with Radeon HD 7970 and laterst drivers.
