In the Path to Dragon Rock area, there is a cave with a dying paladin, and next to the corpse is this wooden thing that gets an "open" icon when I mouse over it... clicking it takes off 30 HP from my whole party ... what is that?

There are cursed shrines which could drain your health instead of healing you. You probably encountered one of these shrines (often they look like big stones).
