For all the negative criticism I have been reading, I have to provide some positive comments. I am just loving the game, level 14, about 10 hours in, and yet to finish act 1. First hours are slow and the learning curve is steep but the story is good and the grinding not boring. After you level up at 5 or more and gather a companion things get easier and if you focus in one or two skills you can be pretty powerful. I am a priest and some of my spells are, when combined with melee from my companions, almost instakills for common monsters. Abundance of mature themes, nice adventure and detective elements and even some humour here and there. Even the graphs are charming. I play the game in my new desktop rig at full but swap files through dropbox with my 5 year old notebook and my enjoyment is not diminished at 800 x 600. Anyway, congrats to the developers for the production and highly recommended if you liked Planetscape or Baldurs gate.
Good to know it can be fun. I've been looking at a let's play video and Inquisitor looks good. I'm kind of regretting not picking it up when it was 75% off.
This game is absolutely terrible, its animations are laughable, its sounds are pitiful, its gameplay is tedious, its AI is non-existant, its balance is broken, and it's full of purely annoying ideas such as making your cursor shake or disappear when you're cursed (forcing you to use hotkeys instead in order to access menu or inventory etc).

I can't stop playing it.

Well, I guess it has some quality to it, at some level.
This game is proof that good atmosphere and narrative are all you need to make an awesome game. Personally as much as I loved top down rpgs I was skeptical whether they could still be enjoyable after so many years, but the answer is a definitely a yes so long as it has a compelling narrative and mood. As for the bugs meh they are definitely there but I haven't found any game breakers yet and I'm well into chapter 2. Yes the game is challenging and it doesn't hold your hand like modern games which not everyone is going to love but personally I love it makes me feel like I'm actually working things out myself rather than waiting for the game to tell me what to do every step of the way. Big thumbs up from me :)
My biggest grief with the game is the dialogue system. It's not fun at all and every character seems to have a terrible speech diarreah.

This post made me laugh. I played as a paladin for a few hours, but reading around, I heard this was the worst class, and that priest/rogue was incredibly OP. Thoughts?

I haven't tried the rogue yet, but having played a priest and paladin I can say with confidence that the paladin is crap. Priest get better and better as time goes on. By the time you get raise dead and pump up your offense the difficulty is lessened greatly. Though your character looks like ass a bit. Wearing a robe with a metal helmet and some leather armor over the robe? Ugly.

I'm wanting to give this game another try. I guess I'll build a priest and give myself a bit of XP.

Make sure to save often and carry around alot of potions until around level 15, then scour the merchants until you can find raise dead and heal. At that point you will only need mana potions, and rarely. Health/stam potions will be chugged by your meatshields during some of the more sudden onslaughts ala iron mines. Wisdom is a great skill as well.

Oh yeah, save before you open any barrels/chest. In fact use cheap seals to destroy them from a distance in case you get hit with a brutal trap.

I actually really want to love this game, but I've developed quite the love/hate relationship with it. I think the game has an excellent atmosphere and I like the sound design all together. The music is actually surprisingly good and sparingly used from what I've heard so far. I also think the game has an interesting story to tell and the game does a solid job of drawing you in.

On the other hand, many of the characters have waaaay too much to say and the dialogue is often passable and at other times just uninteresting or straight up bad. The graphics are not terrible, but the characters and animations are highly unpleasant to look at. I think the biggest issue with the game is a complete lack of an explanation on how ANY of the systems work. I'm all for games that don't hold your hand, but there should at least be tools available to learn more about different aspects of the game. It turns into a big game of trial and error.

All in all, I don't think the game is bad and it certainly has some appeal for anyone that is willing to devote the time to figuring out it's intricacies, but it certainly isn't a fantastic game nor does it deliver on it's promising concept. Here's hoping the supposed sequel (not sure if this is true or not) takes these issues to heart and creates a more well-rounded game.
