I'm currently in Act II and have recruited Jacques de Pulein. The problem is whenever I try to talk to him I get empty dialogue box and no way to close it. The only way is to force close the entire game and reload. This is especially problematic during combat when I accidentally click on Pulein.

It's the same problem as described in another topic by BorionDorion: Game breaking dialogue bug. GOG won't allow links to its own forum.

Unfortunately, there was no information about how to fix this bug ourselves should it occur again, or to someone else.

Thank you,
Viraliu

Looking into that topic I can see that I had to fix BorionDorion's save manually. Can you please send me your latest save to kovar[@]cinemax.cz as well so that I could have a look at it? Unfortunately I don't remember what I was able to find about the problem back then but I don't have any note here about making a fix based on this issue which might mean that I wasn't able to find the cause...

Done. If you do find the solution, would you be please kind enough to post it here? It would certainly help me or others in the future.

Here is a temporary solution to get round this bug until the next patch is released (one day).

Press ` (next to 1) to open the console and type
\kill - Pulein [press Enter]
Press ` again and type
\addbeing_afriend Pulein -1 -1 [press Enter]

It seems that in some cases a certain local variable can be set to a wrong value due to a code-related bug that can luckily be avoided through a change in Pulein's script. In the meantime though, the only solution is to kill the old Pulein and bring in a fresh one.
