Hi there!

I entered Hillbrandt, talked to some people, especially with the sheriff. In the cellar I acquired a dog. After this I went down to Ellisia Würtenrodt. At this point the game freezes in the dialogue screen, or if I trade with her. Even if I walk away from there the problem persists. Using my inventory also causes a freeze. I have to do a reset, because the PC completely hangs. Before I entered Hillbrandt I surrounded it, doing fights, using my inventory or casting spells. All without any problems.

Playing a Paladin on EASY.

OS: Windows 7 Professional x86_64
CPU: AMD Phenom X4 9550
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6950 2GB
Sound: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatality Professional
RAM: 8GB
All drivers are up to date.

Can't find any log files from the game. Windows error logging doesn't show anything related.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT:
I forgot to mention that I tried the compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3). Likewise administrative priviliges. No success.

EDIT 2:
Playing in windowed mode seems to do the trick. Played over an hour without any freeze.
BUT if somebody knows a solution for fullscreen gaming, I wouldn't hesitate to try out.

EDIT 3:
Someone cheered too soon...
Only just I went back to Ellisia Würtenrodt and talked to her. After this I left her house and used my inventory. FREEZE.
Even in windowed mode my whole PC crashed.

EDIT 4:
Played again, barely half an hour, this time the game freezed in the dialogue screen with Victor Hammerhand. So it seems to be a larger problem, cause it's not only related to Ellisia Würtenrodt.
I will submit a support ticket.

EDIT 5:
Tried all suggestions from GOG support. No solution is in sight.

Shut down your background programs. That should solve the problem.

Playing a Paladin. At least, I try ...

Hello.
My answer was in no way meant to offend you.
My game sometimes just freezes as you describe for no clear reason (may be available RAM?), well I simply wait for a while (sometimes it takes a couple of minutes) and it resumes so I can continue playing...

Just my two cents....
Unless he has a bunch of apps running in the background, which he says he doesn't, I doubt this game is going to tax his 8 Gb of ram much (just checked my copy of inquisitor is taking half a Gig right now). Nothing about his setup sounds unusual. My game crashes from time to time but doesn't cause a hard lockup. Haven't had to deal with compatibility modes either.

If it was a hardware/driver problem you would think that the problem would be more consistent. As in talking to any npc would lock up the machine. It's strange that it's only that one npc. Really there's not enough info to try to troubleshoot it.

Do you get looping audio or graphical issues when it locks up? Might try disabling the sound in game (turn everything down). If you're really desperate to play the game you might be able to get it to run in VirtualBox :P It's not a super power hungry game so the D3D acceleration might suffice for this game. I haven't used or read anything about VirtualBox since Oracle acquired Sun but in theory it should keep your whole system from locking up if you can get the game to run satisfactorily.
Well i was talking about my case, I have only 2GB RAM and lot of applications running while I play Inquisitor.... My rig is 10 yr old Athlon XP. Anyway I never experienced a CTD o similar problem, just the occasional freezes that corrects themselves...

Last time I checked Inquisitor was using almost 900MB RAM...

Hi.
No graphical issues but occasionally I got noise interferences at the hang up. So it's probably a sound related error. If so, then it's the only game where this error happens.

Thanks for all the answers so far. They are greatly appreciated.

well my only problem with Inq was after 4-5 hours of playing, when I would get visual feedback that the memory leaks have reached a peak. THat's when you restart the game and load a previous save before the errors appeared
This problem occurred one time with me, the problem was my video card got too hot, i was playing for a long time, i tried to force vsync in my nvidia options but i got serious mouse lag. I have been playing almost everyday after work, and so far so good.
