hello, im new to this, and i have been trying to pick locks in the first act town.
I looked on other forums that you need a theif (which i am) and need thieving at least 3 for the pub chest which i have as well, and for the traps i have perception at 5.

but the problem is when i use the skill with the key (thieving skill), i right click, then it shows the key with a red little arrow.

Im not sure what to do with this skill i have tried to left click and right click and reuse the skill.

If anyone could share some useful information i would be very thankful.

EDIT: Sorry, i forgot to put this post in a question forum

First right click to activate the skill, thieving in this case, then left click on the chest. If it's blinking red it means you have enough Perception to detect a trap which it won't be sprung if you try to use Thieving skill even if your level is too low to disarm (it will just say it's too low to disarm). If there's no trap you will open it after left clicking.

I'm level 29 thief currently and while I can recommend to go with thieving it will cost you a lot of skill points to increase to other masteries and therefor I chose to read the book that gave me access to "Shatter" to open locks instead. It's useful because you can stand at a distance, you don't need to pick the locks and you don't have to bash them open which in the beginning takes way too long.
thank you for the information, but when i left click on the chest it just keeps saying "chest is locked" and i have the skill activated too. im not sure if this is the game or my computer, if you know anything else please let me know.

Thanks again,

~Brock~
I think that means your Thieving skill is too low to unlock it (assuming there's no trap) and perhaps that your Perception skill is too low as well to tell you that.

I don't think you can spring a trap by using the thieving skill no matter the skill difference and if there's no trap it either opens or not, if not your skill should be too low.

I recommend either increasing it or get the magic that has Shatter in it. It's Pagan magic but I don't recall the book, you'll have to save and buy them all and see until you find the right one. I don't remember the name but the priest in the left corner of the Church in Hillbrandt will sell you 3 or 4 for 800 each.
