I discovered last night that the devilroot attribute potions can take you beyond the natural maximum for your class. So, if you hold off on drinking them until you hit the maximum of an attribute through levelling, you can then take it beyond that maximum by drinking these potions. This is not true for gaining attributes from the genie, so it may be the only way to take an attribute beyond its natural maximum.
