I contacted GOG via a support ticket, but would ask here if anybody has any ides.

The game crashes after the character creation screen. The usual "inquisitor.exe has stopped working". As I have everything updated, on administrator rights and so on, I really have no clue what could be causing the crash.
Aynone?

no clue. Try changing to window mode or other settings.
It might be the codecs, as after that follows the intro

What OS? Where did you install the game?

Win7 64bit, tried the default C:\program files\gog.com\ and tried D:\Inquisitor. I also downloaded the game 2 times, first normal download link and then the GOGdownloader in case anything was currupted.

Tried all resolutions and the cinemax video plays normal, so I guess codecs are not the problem.

Do you have the DirectX June 2010 drivers installed?

I'll just paste the fix from support here if anyone else experiences this.

Hello

It is caused by the "LGVID.AX" file. It is installed and registered with Thief 2.

Please place the "fix.bat" and "LGVID.AX" files in any folder and run the "fix.bat". This will unregister the file and should make the intro display.
Now if you want to play Thief 2 you will need to reinstall it or place the "LGVID.AX" and "thief2.bat" files in any folder and use the "thief2.bat" to register the file.

I can't attach files, so just have one of these game installed at the same time or contact support for the fix files.

you can change the file extension to .jpg and attach it :-P I'm just not sure how's that with .bat files and security...

I have the same problem. I have tried different resolutions and XP compatibility mode. UAC is turned off. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on a Core i7 980-X with a Radeon HD 5870.

Edit: Oups... Did a search and didn't see the solution... Guess I'll be trying it on my laptop instead...

Right, got the game working and this is what I did:

I reinstalled Windows Media Player 11,then I installed FFDShow 1.3.4507 MPEG4 codec, DIVX codec, DScaler 5 MPEG decoders and xiph.org open coecs 0.85, 17777

Now maybe just one of these is what was needed, but i wasn't going to download a coec, try the game, download the next codec, try the game, so I just downloaded them all!

After installing all the codecs, the game worked. So this probably is the answer for you.

This worked for me, I uninstalled Thief 2 and then the videos in Inquisitor work and the game does not crash as soon as I finish creating a new character.
