i cleared both iron mines and devil's caverns with the help of genies. now i have feeling i'm heavy underleveled. middle of act 2, level 25.
well, sorry but... You're actually just right :(
Yeah, the game gets really, really hard in act 2, and it doesn't get better after that.
I found undead monks to be my bane, chain paralyzing... What the hell ?
Even the genie dies from that.

Just a little trick with genies, whe nyou destroy a box to summon one, move away from it.
As long as he hasn't spoken to you, he will be in "let's destroy ennemies" most of the time with a little luck, he will have destroyed everyone in the room and then will speak to you so you can choose another option like shop or whatever ^^

Oh and they might not move on their own, but you can pull ennemies to them.

Just be very very carefull if you like to spam attack magic, since that can hit friendly npcs, and the genie doesn't like you trying to hurt him.

i know how to use genies. the question was, if level 25 is too low for middle of act 2. as i said, i used a lot of genies in mines and devil's caverns. and i didn't get xp for monsters there, because genies killed them all.
and as you might have noticed, the first line of my message answered that ^^
Ahh Monks...had LOTS of problems with one ( not to mention the four in the pagan temple )as a Priest. Then I hit level 35 and got Exile (True Faith magic).

I laugh at all the pathetic undead and demons now. Lightning with 20d20 damage kills the rest, accompanied with a sweet bow with +180% vs humans and +160% against beasts.

Was level 26 at the end of Act 1, 38 at act 2. No grinding other than that necessary to get to the lowest level of a dungeon. I used genies only for +1 skill point bonus.

Levels don't really matter that much if you invest in the right skills.

are there any cheats to get levels? i think, half of game is already done, and i still don't have third magic tier. not even level 35.
damn, how did you get that high ?
Anyway, I haven't found exile yet, just lightning, and it is literally a god send :)
Finishing the coliseum was really hell for me, there were so many undead monks at each floor, just to complete 1 loosy quest... very disapointing.

The vendors restock EVERY time you talk to them. Just try your luck, Exile is absolutely fantastic against undead.

Too bad it doesn't work on Werewolf Lords Damn beasts take 5 Lighning bolts to the face. Even with wisdom maxed it still takes too long. Hope instant Death from Heretical
changes that, but I'm still 4 levels short.

yeah I know for the restock, but I got tired of it after a while, and still didn't get exile :p
i'm at the start of act 3 and am level 40. is that ok, or am i underleveled?

I was 38 there and kicking ass. You'll be fine.
playing monk. stoning is the strongest offensive spell i have. and it's not good enough anymore.
the only place i used a genie (just one) was the pagan temple and that's only because i got insta-killed from spawning phantoms. mainly because i did it as my first quest in act 2 and i suppose i was not really on adequate level then. Nevertheless, just finished act 2 and I'm lvl 39 so i suppose you really are underleveled if you finish it under 30lvl

Don't really remember, sold it as soon as I achieved level 45 and unlocked Instant Death (heretical). Kills anything lower than your level + skill level (max 20)

It was a yellow artifact, so you'll probably get it from a boss. I found it in Act 2 i think, it worked great on lizardmen and rogues.

I never found Stoning to be very useful, and the only reason I levelled Inquisitorial Magic was for a greater chance of getting Crucifixion to work.

If you're looking for a decent offensive spell, I recommend Locust Swarm. Nothing much can resist it and it's absolutely wonderful against spirits and such. Not to mention it has a negligible rest period, so you can pretty much spam the hell out of it, and at higher levels (hopefully you've been levelling wisdom) you can stack the spell for even greater damage-over-time.
