game is design in awfull way.

This is not a out-of-the-box solution, but I highly recommend playing the game through ScummVM. It should just work and you can configure the Screen Resolution the way you want it, you can even apply effects to smoothen out the visuals.

It's also rather easy to setup all things considered. Simply install ScummVM, run it and point it to the Folder where the game is installed with the "Add Game" button. Then you can make your personal configurations (game specific is also possible) as you want them, and enjoy the game.
