I bought this game a while ago because I found the premise intriguing. However, I've hesitated to play it in earnest because I'm not sure if it's one of those adventure games where the game can end up in an unwinnable state if you do not perform specific actions at the right time.

I'm not as worried about deaths, if they are in the game, though I would like to know if there are any as well so I can be more careful about saving my progress.

Thanks in advance!

I do not know how much I get your meaning, it is sure that you cannnot proceed if you do not investigate key item, place or show important item to get hint. The game is not hard if you focus on the diague. Moreover, there is an advanture guide in goodies that should help. By the way, no death in this game.

If you are talking about bugs that leads the game unwinnable, it is not possible.

Hope it helps
Not talking about bugs. Some older adventure games (looking at you, Sierra!) were designed in such a way where if you couldn't progress any further without a certain item or without having performed a certain action that you could no longer backtrack to pick up or perform.

A made up example: Let's say the game started you off on an island and to progress you have to take a boat to the mainland. Once you've done you come across a gate that requires a key you had to find on the previous island, but the boat sailed away once you reached the mainland so you cannot return to the island again. If you didn't pick up the key before you left the island then you are stuck, because you have to go through the gate to finish the game.

A game that makes sure you don't get stuck (like most LucasArts games) would either make it so that the boat never left, allowing you to get to the island whenever you want, or structure the puzzle such as that you couldn't get on the boat without getting everything you need from it first (Like, maybe to pay your boat fare you have to get a bag of gold which just so happens to also contain a mysterious key).
As Point & Click game is ridiculous little stuff to pick up.
This game is easy in puzzles but annoying in interface design an few mazes.

Far too late, but no, there are no unwinnable states, it's like Monkey Island. You can not screw up.
