In the controls configuration section there's an option that is missing from the game, which is a climbing button that allowed the player the climb ropes and chains and allowed him to resume the swinging movement. I remember this was very helpful during the giant crocodile stage, and it was necessary to go through the castle.

This was solved with 1.01 patch on the original.

I've also tried applying the original 1.01 patch, but doing so restores the original DRM of the game, forcing it to ask for the original CD.

SOLVED: My mistake. Instead of adding new options in the controls section the inventory's UP and DOWN buttons to the climbing function.
