Hi guys. I'm trying to play I-War 1.

I have a Saitek X52 joystick/throttle control that I would like to use with the game.

Unfortunately, the game doesn't detect it. I can program keybaord commands into the joystick and they respond, but I can't actually steer or manage throttle. I'd be happy if just the joystick worked, to be honest.

Has anyone managed to use an X52 with this game or am I out of luck?

Thanks.

Although I don't have a Saitek I don't understand why it doesn't work, is there anything special about it?

I don't know if you have other controllers (steering wheels, gamepads, etc.) plugged in, but if so unplug them all and try again.

Is your joystick detected by windows controlpanel?
Try making sure that the X52 is set to the preferred device in the game controllers section of the windows control panel.

That did it. Thanks so much! I was beginning to think my joystick was defective. Just another quirk of Win7. Not only have you fixed I-War for me, but half a dozen other games I've been struggling with.

Much obliged.
I've actually hit one more snag.

I can control pitch and yaw with my joystick, but as soon as I start the game my lateral thrusters kick in and launch me into space. I can't figure out what's causing that. Bizarrely the now that the joystick is working the game is having stuttering issues too.

Is there any way to mess with joystick axes, maybe in a ini file or something? All I see are keybindings. Nothing related to the joystick.
Ah, that problem. I can't remember whether I was able to fix the lateral thrusters firing off constantly, but it's due to the throttle, slider and the two rotating knobs. Make sure you've got those centered and the laterals should stop engaging. I just fly I-War with the stick and the keyboard, which works ok for me. Throttle isn't much use anyway, better to fly with the thrust overrides I think.
