I completed Edge of Chaos last night - now I'm going to have to get a life. :)
Nice one Stephen/Ravenger, thanks for so much fun.
I read something about being able to go playing the game after you have completed it, and as there are a few trade items I haven't acquired, this sounds quite appealing. I think it a mod thing.
Has anyone tried it?
You should try IW1, much tougher, especially the Defiance campaign. ;-)
Now you've finished it you can either try the free-roam mod, which allows you to continue playing, but there isn't actually all that much to do apart from explore and pirate.
Or you can try some total conversion mods which add a lot of new features.
Or of course, you could play the original game, which is a different experience altogether. More like a proper simulation, but it has a very strong narrative and some very original missions.

Thanks guys,
When you say the original game, you mean Warhead on the Amiga right? ;)

Seriously, I played IWar 1 through a couple of months back. I loved it, but the fact that my weapon fire did not fully register on enemy ships and some other small issues put me off playing Defiance a bit.
I would like to check out the mods for IWar 2, but I wasn't sure if there were finished scenarios or if they were still in beta - I'm new to the whole mod thing, and it seemed to me that it was assumed that everybody was conversant with the mod business and it appeared to be a bit newbie unfriendly - either that or I'm just thick. :)
I too thought weapon hits weren't registering properly in I-War, but it'd been so long since I played it on the original hardware that I didn't realise that you have to let your PBCs fully recharge before firing to ensure they have maximum power, and that long distance shots aren't effective at all.

I hope the quote thing works out properly - it's strange on this forum.
Anyway, you're not necessarily thick. I've seen some game mods that come complete with a hands-off installer and are almost completely automated, while others have some really odd requirements and come with cryptic instructions - if they have instructions at all. The toughest ones for me come in oddball compiled packages where you need to get some third-party converter that also has a lack of instructions, and then guess where to put the files and create new folders. Search the forum at the hosting site and you'll often find someone else who had the same mod installation problems, and some brave soul will usually have posted the instructions. Those forums will also often have sub-forums dedicated to certain mods and you can often find the installation instructions there.
Here is an IWAR-2 total conversion Mod that was professionally done in an easy to use single installer file.

Finished it again, over the weekend. Man, was this ever a great game. I may give it another run through in a month or so and this time pirate from most anyone instead of just a few corporations, and also try to piss off the Navy or Law factions. Curious to see if there are consequences and persistent changes to reactions.

I agree, I remember being disappointed with I-war2 when it came out after playing the first one. I remember hating the fact that 2 seemed to be stuck in "arcade mode", where ship modules never got damaged and the physics were dumbed down a LOT :(

If there was a "simulation mode" mod for 2, or a high rez hud pack for 1 they would be the perfect game :P

I can't seem to get a download of torn stars that isn't corrupted, including both the installer and zip file. Do you have an alternative download location?
