Hey everyone,

So I'm still in Act 1, soon I will be doing the confrontation mission (I think that's the name).

But I've been having to get by purchasing what little there is to offer in the trades window from the Stepsons and a few independents. My question is how do I get better items available for trade? Can I steal them through piracy? Because so far its just a bunch of goods that I use to trade for weapons, or weapons schematics.

So far I have a nice meteor shield and some quad light laser cannons, but if they fire too many missiles at me I'm screwed. It would be really nice to get that turret that fires at the missiles.

Besides that when will new ships become available? Again is it purely based on completing a certain number of missions? I'm guessing the answer is yes but it can't hurt to be sure.

Thank you...in the mean time I will search for the elusive sporting goods to get an expert repair system. If only I could get some better heat sinks, but it looks like that isn't available at all in the trading menu.

Start here: http://www.gog.com/forum/independence_war_series/i_war_2_pirating_candidates

As the game progresses, you'll get better ships, better trades open up, and you'll get some better equipment as part of the storyline. You'll also get access to more systems with other trade goods.
Okay thank you. I wish I could mark this question as answered but I have no idea how. I heard about the Jaf's mod I definitely need to get that too...eventually
For dealing with missiles and other combat matters, check out this thread: http://www.gog.com/forum/independence_war_series/combat_tips/page2

Your quad lights make for good missile killers: the quick RoF puts a lot of shots in the air <heh> so it's a perfect anti-missile weapon. The nice thing is that the AI likes to fire big salvos at the beginning of most encounters, so they're usually coming from the same general direction. This allows you to point your nose towards the missiles and let your cannons take them out. I usually combine sideways and backwards thrust while I'm doing this: backwards gives you time to work on them, and sideways causes the missiles to maneuver, making their trails easier to track.

Eventually your ship will become potent enough that you can ignore the odd missile or two, but full salvos will still mess you up.

Generally, thrust override is your friend. That is, if you normally fly in Arcade mode. I use Arcade mode because it lets you combine both flight models in combat.
