I'm having problems just getting through weap - advanced....
I remember this being hard with the boxed version, but it seems impossible now...

You need to find a weak spot, directly above usually works, and spam missiles very quickly to punch through the destroyer's shields.

I ignored the mines and attacked the destroyer from the stern, maneuvered the Dreadnought directly behind its engines. The shields don't protect the rear. Fire missiles during approach and when the PBC overheats. In this way I could kill it shortly after it begun moving and got only 3 mine hits.

Old thread, but another tip for anyone stuck on this mission.

I just got passed this myself after many failed attempts. The reason? I was trying to fly the big lump like a fighter, like in so many other games. Don't even bother trying to weave through the mines. You can't.

The solution is really simple. Approach fast and park yourself right behind it's ass and keep your position there with lateral thrusters and hammer away.
Alternate rapid fire PBC with missiles to prevent overheating.
