Well, everything is in the title : is there an easy and elegant way to take down gunstars in Defiance ? (minor spoiler : I'm asking this for the mission STC Attack).
Gunstars being stationnary targets, I expected REM missiles to do wonders. However, the gunstars just have too much protection, even the punchy REM missiles do not pack enough firepower to take em down efficiently.
Right now, what appears to be the most efficient strategy for me is to set a course at about 200 m/s, aiming right next to the gunstar. Then, disabling the nav assistant in order to keep this trajectory, rotating the ship to face the gunstar, and hammering it with dual PBC in rapid firing mode, all power to the weapons. If the trajectory has been set carefully, the ship will drift close to the gunstar for maximum PBC damage, while keeping an angular relative speed to avoid some gunstar fire. However, this strategy is not very reliable, as the gunstars pack quite a punch and can cripple your ship in a few seconds if they get a firing solution at close range...
