Ravenger: First of all congratulations! You're definitely an I-War expert!
Confusion is definitely one of the hardest missions, but during development I had to play the last mission in front of our publisher's producer because he didn't believe it was possible to complete it, due to the difficulty!
If you want to see the final movie, then that's easy. In the defiance psg/resource/video folder is the outro movie in its original mpeg format. It's called Outro.mpg.
Thanks again! That is very helpful!
Everyone involved in making the game also deserves hearty congrats.
I really think Confusion is harder than Defiance, possibly only because of the nice save point mid-Defiance. Defiance is rather difficult, but a lot of it can be toned down if you are using specific methods. If anyone needs help skip to the end of this post where I put my method.
Basically, I think I could reproduce my "victory" on Defiance much more frequently than saving all 4 modules on Confusion.
Even if you don't insist on saving all the modules, it's very nasty to clear out the Navy wings until the Destroyer arrives, then while you are tangled the COSA ships arrive and next thing you know a couple of yellow (or black) ships are already blasting you. Even when I send a REM missile just as they arrive, after the Indie backup ships another COSA AND another Navy wing with a destroyer arrive! Harsh.
Ivo.
P.S.
My "method" for clearing Defiance:
1. Snipe a couple of COSA ships on arrival, one shot down before bomb arrives, another after. Save some snipe shots for the end though (at least 16).
Also, use your 2 wingmen and the fighters really really help a lot.
2. Whenever COSA says something (there are some funny sound bites there :) 3 ships are being sent from the main base. You don't really need REM missiles later, so you can use them for those (although I passed this section with 3 REM missiles.
3. Continue using your wingmen, Gatling, missiles to harass whatever ships come near the bomb. Note that you don't need to have the tugs escort the bomb all the way as long as the bomb gets within 8 km you can succeed (you may need to shoot it yourself, I guess).
4. Mopping up is actually easy considering the wingmen and fighters do a lot for you.
5. Now near the Carrier, just go behind it and leisurely shoot the freighters one by one. You may use your wingmen to assist, but this is just a formality. TRI to weapons and AM injection makes it possible / easier / faster. Don't waste anything on the freighters, use just the PBC.
SAVE Point here; the more goodies you are able to get here with, the better. It is really key to save as much loadout as possible. Then you need a bit of trial and error, but as there is a save point no problem.
6. Fly quickly to the front / top of the carrier, using forward thruster override, and turn to face the top. If you are still less than 10km away, use reverse thrusters to slowly get some distance between you.
7. Shoot AI module ASAP with sniper. Usually 3 shots will do, but 4 may be needed. There does not seem to be a way to stop 1 fighter from being sent by the node, but you should never let 2 come out.
8. Quickly, just after the AI node is destroyed, target the 1 fighter that got out. Depending on how many sniper shots you have you should try to get 1 hit on the fighter (this doesn't always work), then as it comes closer to you use missiles and gatling to weaken it or destroy it (if it is weak enough you can let your wingmen finish him off). Do not let a full strength fighter alone as it is well capable of destroying 2 of your wingmen!
9. As another node pops out you must destroy it ASAP. As long as you are not actually being shot at by a fighter you should drop everything and repeat 7. and 8.
10. Once all AI nodes are out, hopefully there is only 1 or at most 2 fighters alive, and they aren't full health. Try to mop them up (use up sniper if you haven't, try to keep some Gatling shots).
11. Don't approach the Carrier yet. It will send out 4 fat ships (I think they resemble COSA versions of the Marine troop carriers that attack the Indie base?). Their heavy PBCs (like those on any COSA ships) hurt, but they are easy to hit. Use any remaining missiles, order your wingmen, and Gatling can destroy one of them reasonably fast. Often they will target any remaining wingmen you have and you can shoot them from behind - don't seem to have shields from behind, like Patcoms.
12. Once everything is clear, be patient. TRI to Thrusters and Shields you won't need weapons until the very end. At any point here if you are damaged wait to be fully repaired as nothing else is coming to attack you (obviously, don't stop if the fixed guns of the Carrier are shooting you) put yourself behind the Carrier just like when you were going for the freighters. Use moderately thrusters going in the direction of the disc from the bottom. You will take one or two shots from the bottom turret. Stop and wait for repairs, there is a good region here where none of the guns can touch you. Look for one of the four holes and slowly go along the bottom of the disc to the edge, and then into the hole. You probably take 1 or 2 shots but with TRI to shields they may not even damage you. If you are damaged but inside the tunnel, again wait for full repairs. The tunnel is tight. Advance to the intersection of the 4 tunnels. A green "Drone" shows up on contacts. Do NOT turn to see it as you may ram a wall. Instead advance a bit more so that your front portion is already over half the tunnel to exit on the opposite side you entered, but the rear is still over the central shaft. Go to F4 and turn on Antimatter injection. Target the drone. Go to F3 so that the PBC auto-targets, shoot until it is destroyed and get the hell out (you are already more than half-way there and pointed correctly).
